Antonino Tabucchi (Pisa, 24 settembre 1943 – Lisbona, 25 marzo 2012) è stato uno scrittore, critico letterario, traduttore e lusista italiano, divulgatore della lingua e letteratura portoghese che insegnò dalla cattedra di cui era titolare all'Università di Siena. È ritenuto il maggior esperto di Fernando Pessoa, scrittore in ragione del quale Tabucchi apprese la lingua, grazie a Maria José de Lancastre, sua moglie, originaria del Portogallo. I suoi libri e saggi sono tradotti in circa venti lingue. Con sua moglie, ha tradotto in italiano molte delle opere di Fernando Pessoa e, su di esso, ha scritto anche un libro di saggi e una commedia teatrale. Ha ottenuto il premio francese Médicis étranger per Notturno indiano e i premi Campiello e Viareggio per Sostiene Pereira. Antonino Tabucchi (Pisa, 24 September 1943 – Lisbon, 25 March 2012) was an Italian writer, literary critic, translator and Lusist, a populariser of the Portuguese language and literature who taught from his chair at the University of Siena. He is considered the leading expert on Fernando Pessoa, the writer who inspired Tabucchi to learn the language, thanks to his wife, Maria José de Lancastre, who was originally from Portugal. His books and essays have been translated into about twenty languages. With his wife, he translated many of Fernando Pessoa's works into Italian and also wrote a book of essays and a play about him. Anton Olmstead Myrer was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a best-selling author of American war novels that accurately and sensitively depict the lives of United States military personnel while in combat and in peace time. His 1968 novel, Once An Eagle, written at the peak of the Vietnam War, is required reading for all Marines and is frequently used in leadership training at West Point. The novel, considered a classic of military literature and a guide to honorable conduct in the profession of arms, has been compared favorably to Leo Tolstoy's magnum opus War and Peace. Eight years after publication, Once an Eagle was made into a television mini-series starring Sam Elliott. Glenn Ford played a supporting character. Myrer wrote eight other novels, of which The Big War (1957) was adapted for a movie in 1958 and The Last Convertible (1978) was made into a television mini-series in 1979. Once An Eagle (1968) and The Last Convertible (1978) became international best-sellers and were translated in 19 languages.
