It is no coincidence that the titles of all Sarah's books contain classical references. She was educated at Aberdeen high school for girls and the local university, where she read Latin and ancient Greek. She then read law at St Anne's College, Oxford, where she was a fast-talking undergraduate, puffing at her pipe and sometimes composing humorous verse. One such occasion began with a party in Balliol College, Oxford, where she made overtures to a don whom she considered to have "a good profile". He resisted her efforts to further the acquaintance. But the don, who lectured in English, was known for his habit of watching television and, a few days later, Sarah sent him a verse: I cast aside my modesty, I laid aside my shame/ And on my knees I offered love - or something much the same/ You brushed my powder from your sleeve, with elegant precision/ And murmured: "Conversation is killing television." Called to the Bar in 1965, she left in the mid-1970s to become deputy legal adviser to the trust division of Lloyd's Bank. But it was her life as a junior chancery barrister that formed the basis of her books, and several of her friends from those days can be discerned, thinly disguised, among her fictional characters.

Seth
Seth was born Gregory Gallant on September 16, 1962, in Clinton, Ontario, Canada. His parents were John Henry Gallant and the English-born Violet Daisy Gallant (née Wilkinson); he was the youngest of their five children. His family moved frequently, and he grew up mostly in Tilbury, Ontario. He was inward, unathletic, and had few friends, and took to comic books and drawing at a young age. Seth attended the Ontario College of Art in Toronto from 1980 to 1983. He became involved with the punk subculture and began wearing outlandish clothing, bleaching his hair, wearing makeup, and frequenting nightclubs. He took on the pen name Seth in 1982. As of 2004, Seth lived in Guelph, Ontario, with his wife[4] Tania Van Spyk, whom he married in 2002.

Sheldon M. Ross is the Daniel J. Epstein Chair and Professor at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. He is the author of several books in the field of probability. Ross received his B.S. degree in Mathematics from Brooklyn College in 1963, his M.S. degrees in Mathematics from Purdue University in 1964, and his Ph.D. degree in Statistics from Stanford University in 1968. He served as a Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1976 until joining the USC Viterbi School of Engineering in 2004. He serves as the Editor for several journals, among which Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences. In 2013 he became a fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
