Abraham Verghese
Abraham Verghese (born 1955) is an American physician, author, Professor for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at Stanford University Medical School and Senior Associate Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. He is also the author of three best-selling books, two memoirs and a novel. In 2011, he was elected to be a member of the Institute of Medicine. He received the National Humanities Medal from President Barack Obama in 2015. He was born in Ethiopia to Christian parents from Kerala, India, who worked as teachers. In 2009, Knopf published his new book and first novel, Cutting for Stone. In 2010, Random House published the paperback version of the book and it rose on the bestseller charts, achieving a rank of #2 on The New York Times trade paperback fiction list on March 13, 2011. It remained on The New York Times list for well over two years. In 2014, Verghese received the 19th Annual Heinz Award in the Arts and Humanities.

The Academia Mexicana de Genealogía y Heráldica was established in Mexico City (Mexico) on 15 May 1943 by: JOSE IGNACIO DAVILA GARIBI, GUILLERMO ROMO CELIS, GONZALO TORRES MARTINEZ, and LUIS GARCIA REMUS. Its structure is made of 24 Numbered Academicians and some others non-numbered, correspondant and honorary members. The institution was reorganized in 1957. The Academia Mexicana de Genealogía y Heráldica published a series of "Memorias" through two periods: VIII volumes on the first one (1945-57); having published XVII volumes from 1957 until 2005. This institution, in collaboration with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had contributed during the microfilming process of the main Mexican Church records (1953-71), achiving the amount of 72,000 film rolls (86 million pages). Thanks to a contract among the aftermentioned institutions, a whole copy of these microfilms were kept in possesion of the Academia Mexicana de Genealogía y Heráldica; nowadays such copies are located in the Archivo General de la Nación (Mexico City), and are available for public consultation under the guidelines and regulations of the same Archivo General de la Nación. There he engaged for several years in deep study and writing. At Radha-Damodara, Srila Prabhupada began to work on his life's masterpiece: a multivolume translation and commentary on the 18,000-verse Srimad-Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana). Highly respected by the academic community for their authoritativeness, depth and clarity, they are used as standard textbooks in numerous universities. His writings have been translated into over eighty languages.
