Lila Perl, the daughter of Russian immigrants fleeing anti-Semitism, published over sixty volumes of fiction and nonfiction for young readers during her long and distinguished career. In addition to the beloved Fat Glenda series, Perl twice received American Library Association Notable awards for nonfiction and was a recipient of the Sydney Taylor Award for Four Perfect Pebbles: A Holocaust Story. She died in 2013 at the age of ninety-two. Isabel's War and its completed sequel, Lilli's Quest, were her final works.

Lillian De La Torre
Lillian de la Torre was an American novelist and a prolific writer of historical mysteries. Her name is a pseudonym for Lillian de la Torre Bueno McCue. Her most popular works were in a series of stories she wrote about Samuel Johnson and James Boswell, under the title 'Dr. Sam: Johnson, Detector'. She also wrote numerous books, short stories for Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, reviews for The New York Times Book Review, poetry and plays. She was a President of the Mystery Writers of America.

Lillian Hellman
Lillian Hellman was born in New Orleans, spent her childhood between New Orleans and New York, attended New York University and Columbia. In 1934 she launched her career as a playwright with The Children's Hour. Over the next three decades came a succession of achievements in the theatre: she has twice been awarded the New York Drama Critics Circle Prize for the best play of the year. Miss Hellman's memoir An Unfinished Woman won the National Book Award in 1969. She also received the Gold Medal for drama from the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the Creative Arts Award from Brandeis University. She held honorary degrees from Wheaton College, Tufts University, and Rutgers University. She served as Regents' Professor at the University of California in Berkeley, and Distinguished Professor at Hunter College. She lived in New York City and Martha's Vineyard.
