Lori Borrill
An Oregon native, Lori Borrill moved to the San Francisco Bay Area just out of high school and has been a transplant Californian ever since. Her weekdays are spent at the insurance company where's she's been employed as a data analyst for over twenty years. The bulk of her evenings are spent at the Little League fields cheering on her son. Lori started writing in June of 2004 after her husband left his job to pursue his dream of owning a business. Not only did the move help ease their hectic schedules, but he became a solid example that those dreams that seem impossible can often come true. She proved that point herself exactly two years later when Kathryn Lye called to tell her she'd sold to the Harlequin Blaze line. Lori claims it was the eHarlequin.com community that prompted her to write her first novel. "After reading countless romances, I saw the Web address on a book and decided to check it out," she says. "At the time, I was just looking for writer's guidelines, but the moment I clicked into the Learn To Write forum, I was amazed by the volume of information available to aspiring writers. They really came across like they wanted me to try this." Since then, she's been an active member of the eHarlequin.com community, finding all of her closest writing friends through the site. "What propelled me from novice to published author were the people I've met through the Harlequin boards," she says. "I've made some treasured friendships with talented authors who not only helped me hone the craft, but have become a system of support I can't imagine writing without." Lori Foster
Lori L. was born on November 14. She did not attend college and married with Allen Foster, her High School sweetheart. The marriage settled in Ohio. She held various jobs as a saleslady, a grocery store clerk, and a Proctor and Gamble material handler before having the first of her three sons in 1981, after that she stayed at home to raise them. Unlike many writers, Lori Foster never considered a writing career until she was in her early 30s. In fact, she'd never even read romances until her sister once forced a load of them on her while she was down sick and unable to fight back. But it was a blessing she quickly took to, and before long, she was thoroughly hooked. It seemed a natural progression for the reader to want to write, so Lori penned a romance novel in longhand, strictly for her own entertainment. Once that was done, she borrowed a typewriter and started another. When she attended a local writers' conference and discovered that not many people had ever completed a book, Lori began to realize she might actually have a talent for something that she absolutely loved doing. It was only after writing 10 complete manuscripts that Lori made her first sale to Harlequin in 1996. Her second book launched the Temptation Blaze subseries and since then she's continued writing at a prolific pace. Her books have appeared on the New York Times Extended, Waldenbooks, and USA Today bestseller lists. Lori also contributes to Writer's Digest Magazine and the Romance Writers Report. She regularly presents workshops to her local chapter and at various conferences, including RWA National. Though Lori loves writing, her first priority will always be her family. She, her husband, and their three sons, all humorous, handsome, and honorable fellows, are quickly following in their father's footsteps.

Lorna Michaels
Thelma Zirkelbach was born and raised in Austin, Texas. At age four, she composed a poem that went, "Happy as a chicken, Happy as a pig, Happy as a rabbit that danced a little jig" and announced that someday she would be a writer. Okay, she had a ways to go, but her goal was clear. It would, however, take several decades to realize that goal. As a child she loved pretending. She and her friends dressed up in her mother's old clothes and imagined they were movie stars or shipwrecked on a desert island. Or she created elaborate stories about a set of paper dolls that lived in, of all places, an orphanage. Her other favorite thing to do was read. She was always being accused of having her nose in a book. She still does. Pretending gave way to more realistic activities in high school and college—football games, parties, school activities. When she had to declare a college major, she impulsively chose speech pathology because she had recently read an article about it in Seventeen magazine. It's a choice she never regretted. Near the end of her junior year, her college career was interrupted when her dress blew into a gas stove and she was severely burned. She spent three months in a burn ward and four more in bed at home. She had to learn to walk all over again, but she also learned that she had the fortitude to overcome pain and the determination to return to her normal life. Within a year she was back in school. After graduation she moved to Houston where she worked as a speech pathologist in the public schools for a year and then quit to get married, have babies, drive carpools, and bake cookies. She had become June Cleaver. Divorce brought that phase of her life to a close. She returned to college for a masters degree, met her present husband, and the two of them combined their families. She'd moved from Leave it to Beaver to The Brady Bunch. She was busy—working as a speech pathologist, going back to school again for a doctorate, and raising a rambunctious family of three kids. Then one day she picked up a Silhouette Romance and got hooked. Soon, reading wasn't enough; she was determined to write a book of her own. She joined Romance Writers of America, started attending conferences and entering contests. Finally on day she got "the call." She'd sold her first book. She combined her two children's names—Lori and Michael—to come up with her pen name Lorna Michaels, and saw her first book published in 1991. She also wrote as Thelma Zirkelbach and Thelma Alexander. She has continued her private speech pathology practice and written 10 more books. How does she find the time? Except for an occasional special program, she doesn't watch television. But the sacrifice has been worth it. She's fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a writer. Today, she has 3 grown children, 2 grandchildren, and 2 demanding cats.
